I have spent a large portion of my life doing community service from the time I was in Highschool to joining programs in the community to be a tutor for students and working with Americorps to help children read and learn literacy.
Now as a security officer, I have gotten to spend time observing and interacting with the underside of the city I have come to call home over the last 12 years. Understanding the situations people find themselves in and the job that is expected of security & Law Enforcement I feel I have at least a basic grasp of the struggles on both sides.
Helping people is the natural response when it is possible to make a difference through hard work and effort. I want to direct my efforts in a more impactful way with helping the city and supporting the citizens that reside here in Minneapolis and the people that call Minnesota home.
Going through High school I spent a lot of time talking with veterans who had served as far back as WWII and had gotten to know their stories and the world that they had lived as well as the reason that they fought for their country despite knowing that it could just end. One man I remember dearly is a pilot who served in WWII Bill Jones, who shared his story with me & a fellow classmate. Spending time each year with Bill really pushed my interest in doing what I can to make sure veterans are recognized and respected for their service to our country and my home.
- I want to see Minneapolis take steps toward having a future where education, healthcare and living conditions for all are being not only met but exceeding expectations as well as accessible for all. I will strive to repair the dogma and poor image that has wrapped itself around the city and work towards holding everyone including myself accountable for their actions.
- My time working with Securitas and SEIU is what led me to advocating on behalf of security members within the union to the capitol for law changes to better protect all of those putting their life at risk and better prepare them.
